Clicking No is ignored - "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes..."
I am trying to prevent users from installing software on Windows 7 Professional computer. The user is a domain account in the "domain users" group. This group is in turn a member of the "user"group on the computer. Under Windows XP this was enough to prevent users installing software. I tested with Firefox 3.6 the UAC message "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes on this computer?" appeared with the option to enter a domain account and password and click Yes, or to click No. However clicking No allows the setup to continue, ie clicking No is ignored. Any ideas?

Hi, Does the issue occur on each Windows 7 machine or only certain Windows 7 machine? At this stage, I suggest you login on the Windows 7 machine with the local administrator account and check whether the domain account is a member of local Administrators group. If so, please remove it. If the issue persists, please try to install some other application for a test. Thanks, Novak

Hi Thank you Novak for your reponse. I have been able to reproduce this on two test machines. The second machine was not a member of a domain. The user account, both domain and non-domain are not, in either case, a member of the local Administrator's group. I have tried a number of other installs and they have been stopped from installing, including signed and unsigned. To me it seems rather odd that when I click "no" the Firefox install proceeds anyway. I wonder if anyone else has been able to reproduce this issue with Firefox 3.6? Thank you

Hi, Based on my research, I would like to explain that the symptom is normal since it is designed by Mozilla. When installing Firefox 3.6 with administrator account, the program files will be copied into the folder: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder. When selecting "No" to install Firefox with Standard user (Or Guest account), the program files will be saved under C:\ProgramData folder and only the current user can access program. It's a hidden folder and is just used as a Local Settings folder which need not administrator privilege. Currently, only part of software can be saved into C:\ProgramData folder and most of software should be saved into C:\Program Files folder which need administrator privilege. After installing Firefox with administrator privilege and putting the files to C:\Program Files, all users can access the program. If you have any question about Firefox, I suggest you also contact Mozilla for further assistance. Thanks, Novak

Thank you Novak for your resarch and detailed reply. My major concern is that users cannot install software. I appears that this is generally the case and that this issue with Firefox 3.6 is the exception. Paul
